Let me share with you a testimony about a prison chaplain and a Bible he gave away in jail:
Today, I handed a Bible to a regular resident of our jail. I wasn’t thrilled to grant his request. This man was obnoxious and cruel towards me in the past, so I had some harsh feelings towards him. I found him to be frustrating. He asked me, the jail chaplain, for a Bible, and it was my duty to get him one.
I walked into my office and was surprised to find myself pulling one of our best Bibles from the shelf to give him. Our best Bible for our rudest inmate. It made no sense. But it wasn’t me who had chosen that Bible. My strength or kindness didn’t lead me to give our best Bible to one of our most brutal inmates. No, that was all God, filling me with the love and grace I needed to do what I could not do on my own.
I walked back and gave the Bible to the man. The inmate accepted the Bible with a quiet "thank you." I didn't think much of it then, but a few days later, I saw him again, and something had changed. There was a remarkable peace about him—an undeniable peace.
I would later receive a note from this inmate. His words were filled with gratitude, and I was reading the words of a transformed man. I couldn't believe my eyes.
Proving prisoners with Bibles makes an eternal difference. Thankfully, friends like you help place Bibles in prisoners’ hands, as the story above shows.
